AMD Athlon 1.2GHz and AMD 760 DDR Platform
Performance Benchmarks Having carried out a review of the Intel Pentium 4 recently, we were keen to pitch the AMD 1.2GHz (266MHz FSB) Processor against the benchmarks achieved by the Intel offering. This would have been an iniquitous comparison taking into consideration the Intel specifications were far superior to that of AMD's. Keeping it simple you can make the comparison should you wish, as a link to the review is provided (click here). We warn you it is not for the faint hearted. Our tests were carried out using Windows 98se and Windows 2000 Professional. Overall Benchmark Results
Mad Onion 3DMark 2000 3DMark 2000 is one of the best 3D performance diagnostic benchmark software currently available. To provide a comprehensive result we ran under two resolutions 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768 both in 16-bit colour.
![]() Windows 98SE retains it's supremacy under the 3DMark 2000 benchmarks by outperforming Windows 2000 in both categories. In the Windows 98SE 1024 x 768 class it scores a tremendous 7676 3DMarks whilst in the 800 x 600 category the score of 9458 3DMarks is the highest we have had for a processor in it's class. The Intel Pentium 4 score in the same category with 9711 3DMarks is the only one that attained a higher score, albeit with a superior configuration. Under Windows 2000 the 1024 x 768 category returns a 6399 3DMarks whilst in the 800 x 600 category the score of 6921 3DMarks more than makes up for the weakness in drivers for Windows 2000. BAPCO - SYSmark 2000 SYSmark 2000 is an application-based benchmark that reflects today's leading edge software applications for Internet Content Creation and Office Productivity.
![]() In the SYSmark 2000 benchmark the differential between Windows 2000 and 98SE is only slight, but one that surprised us a little, conventionally Windows 2000 benchmarks are somewhat higher than the 98SE. ZIFF DAVIS - Content Creation Winstone 2000 Winstone 2000 is similar to SYSmark 2000 and is used by us as a comparison to the SYSmark 2000 benchmarks.
![]() The Winstone 2000 benchmarks seem to be more in line with what we expect here Windows 2000 displays it's prowess by streaking ahead of the 98SE, we have to say the SYSmark 2000 score is a little puzzling and one that needs further investigation. Normally both these benchmarks display the same trend in this instance clearly not to be. |
