AMD Athlon 1.2GHz and AMD 760 DDR Platform
Our Verdict The AMD DDR platform is not one to be scoffed at, making it a serious contender to any Intel challenge. The review system supplied came with an AMD Athlon 1.2GHz DDR with a 266MHz FSB, and in comparison to the recently Intel supplied Pentium 4 1.5GHz, it not only stands just below it's shoulders, but dares to even come close to beating it. The difference cannot be attributed to only the processor speed but the chipset and memory combination as perceived by AMD clearly seems the way forward. We are aware Intel is working towards a 2GHz processor, but so is AMD. The AMD 760 chipset is a natural progression for supporting DDR, however, VIA has also launched its version of the DDR chipset, and traditionally VIA does make exceedingly good chipset's. Should you happen to be in the market for a complete system then AMD is hard to ignore, but if you are in no hurry, then we would expect you to wait a while until the dust settles a little, before making your final move. Our final word on the matter, WOW! AMD and DDR what can one say, except 'A golden key can open any door'.
