Taxan Ergovision 745 There are two initial things that strike you when removing the Ergovision 745 from the box; the first being that it is BIG, by far the largest here although strangely enough one of the lightest. The second is the inclusion of a built in USB hub allowing the connection of USB peripherals via the monitor. The merits and drawbacks of USB can be argued long into the night but it is nice to see the inclusion of the hub and the Taxan is the only monitor we looked at here that does have one and it is nice to see. The 745 did very well in our tests and gave a good solid image with a maximum resolution of 1600x1200@ 75Hz. The dot pitch is slightly larger at 0.26mm although it is very difficult to see any difference between this and one based on a 0.25mm. The 745 passed most of the tests with flying colours, only struggling on the tests some of the other monitors struggled on as well. Where the 745 was alone however was in failing the Mid-Range streaking test which is a little concerning although the failure was very marginal and of course these things are subject to the reviewer's opinion, rather than having a hard and fast benchmark result. The only downside to the monitor is that in the face of the competition here it doesn't come out as particularly good value for money: there is not a great difference to go up to the Mitsubishi for example and the MAG monitors are such great prices. It would be well worth shopping around to see what sort of price the 745 can be picked up for because it a ver high quality monitor, especially if you need that USB hub. |
