Head to Head NVIDIA GeForce2 MX Graphic Cards
Performance We have dispensed with Detonator drivers for this review as we are of the opinion that manufacturer supplied drivers should be as good as the Detonator drivers and not have to expect users to download other drivers to get the card working to it's highest performance.
Mad Onion 3DMark 2000 3DMark 2000 is one of the best 3D performance diagnostic benchmark software currently available. To provide a comprehensive result we ran under two resolutions 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768 both in 16-bit colour. We have also provided the results from Fill-Rates for single and multi texturing, along with a 64Mb Texture rendering speed, to allow for the lack of the 64Mb onboard, so as to compare what performance you would get running this test on a 32Mb card.
![]() The 3D Prophet clearly leads the way in both the 1024 x 768 and 800 x 600 sections, although the lead is less pronounced in the 1024 x 768 sections the 800 x 600 sections it does somewhat excel compared to the ELSA. 3DMark 2000 - 64MB Texture Rendering Speed (FPS)
Measured in FPS (Frames per Second) the Hercules card does well in the 800 x 600 section, but falls well behind in the 1024 x 768 and the ELSA hold it's own, this may be down to the drivers, and it's weakness in this test. Having run the test no less than three times this was the best result we obtained. In all cases the Hercules did fall behind in the 1024 x 768 section. 3DMark 2000 - Fill Rate (Single-Texturing) (MTexels/s)
Here again as the 3D Mark 2000 overall results, the Hercules hold on to it's slender lead, over the ELSA. 3DMark 2000 - Fill Rate (Multi-Texturing) (MTexels/s)
![]() The story remains the same as the previous single-texturing test, the Hercules hold on to it's slender lead with dear life, really in this test there is nothing between the two cards. However, the lead is more pronounced in the 800 x 600 sections. |
