Our Verdict

The Intel D815EEA is a sound but stable motherboard, with a superb turn of speed, as and when required. The i815E chipset has stiff competition from VIA and other chipset manufacturers, however if one puts the troubles of the i820 chipset at the back of ones mind for a tad, we can see Intel has had a fine run of chipsets in the past, particularly with the best loved chipset of our time the BX, which found it's way in almost every PC in the home and business sector within a fourteen month time frame. However, besides the onboard video which you will notice we have not discussed at great length (we do not like this option) in the context of performance, the i815E chipset is bound to be winner for Intel and in time will replace the BX as the chipset matures with the help of refined drivers. As for the D815EEA motherboard, the features offering catapults it into close top position, we were highly impressed with the Diagnostic LEDs and the implementation of the Intel EXPRESS BIOS update were impressive and by all accounts useful features that will make life a lot easier for consumers who do not wish to complicate their lives with constantly learning different methods of upgrading their BIOS and then finding themselves with a hefty technical bill because it all goes horribly wrong! All in all this is a fine offering from Intel which will go long way to eradicate the pessimistic publicity it's had of late.
